Brown’s is a chain of restaurants round the UK located in fancy heritage buildings. Thursdays are Lobster Thursdays during which they serve fresh lobster at very reasonable prices. Apparently Cambridge animal rights activists protested against the restaurant for cooking lobsters live back in 2014. As long as the lobsters are killed humanely (which the restaurant said […]
Bristol Harbour Hotel is a newly-opened hotel at the former Lloyds Bank building on Corn Street. Despite the name, this hotel is nowhere near the harbour! As far as I am concerned, they can give the place any damn name they like when the food is this good! The appetiser was a chunky fish soup […]
Pieminister are running a promo of 50% off brunch menu items on weekends in November and December. I went there too late last Sunday and couldn’t get a seat. I had The Banger – an open-top pie. The smoky baked beans were too sour and watery and the sausage was too peppery. The Banger is packed […]
The Town House used to have a totally bargainous lunch set menu. Due to increasing costs, they’ve stopped it. However, you can still get the three mains for the old, bargainous price of £ 10 if you like their Facebook page. It’s win-win situation for both the diner and the restaurant, I’d say! I chose […]
A camera scans your face, recognises your mood and recommends a food based on your mood. I was told to pull a silly face, and the software read it as worried! I got recommended goat curry. The thing is, I don’t eat goat or lamb! I ignored my fortune card and went for waffles from […]
Many have hailed this drink as the best thing ever. They clearly haven’t tasted Milo before. It’s basically Milo Peng with some cherry syrup. Malted chocolate is the key here. To recreate it, simply use Milo.
Recipe’s here except I used a mix of mozzarella and parmesan for the Béchamel sauce and added a bay leaf. And red wine in the photo that I added a splash of into the ragu sauce. I followed the tips here particularly fresh mozzarella (supermarkets sell them in ball form) and adding spinach.
A whole floret of broccoli and half a cup of double cream makes four small portions. Add cheddar cheese for the umami quality and cook on low heat till cheese is browned and the liquid has evaporated into paste. Mix the paste well with boiling water and microwave it to reheat.
This is spectacular! Beats restaurants’ ones on taste. Sauté chopped mushrooms (two different varieties) with butter until browned. Add double cream and water and use an immersion blender to blend until chunky-smooth (imperfect cos I’m using an immersion blender – YMMV if using a stand blender). Personally, I prefer the chunky texture. Drizzle with truffle-infused […]
